Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Review
In the culmination of the Metal Gear Solid game series, legendary game designer Hideo Kojima and Konami have truly outdone themselves with the Guns of the Patriots. From stunning graphics and visual displays to an intense and captivating storyline, the enthralling saga continues Snake's story in a way that initiates newcomers while drawing in the veteran assassins who still haven't had their fill of death defying action. MGS4 has rapidly acquired the designation of the best game of all time, and the title is well deserved.
MGS4 returns the storyline to Solid Snake, a genetically enhanced black ops warrior, who is now suffering from the adverse effects of advanced aging, brought about by the experimental modifications to his DNA. Due to his rapidly weakening condition, he is now far less confident in his abilities and has adopted a much more cynical approach to his work. But if you've ever met Solid Snake, you know he is still the absolute best in the business and he won't stop until the job is done and his countrymen are safe.
In the near future, the face of war has mutated into a gruesome experiment in mind control which Liquid Ocelot, Snake's arch nemesis, has taken full advantage of. The world's economy depends upon constant war for survival, and soldiers are nothing more than remote controlled weapons to be aimed by anyone with the ability to push a button. Now, Ocelot controls the actions and thoughts of every soldier in the world except for one: Solid Snake. Snake must penetrate the barren lands of the Middle East, The jungles of South America, and various other parts of the world to try and stop Ocelot from dominating the face of the earth. But in his rapidly aging condition, is he still up to the task? In his own raspy words "Sounds like the perfect job for me..."
MGS4 has added a ton of new features, from the ability to instantly purchase and modify new weapons, accessories and ammunition to suit Snake's needs to a new camouflage system that allows him to blend in with any environment. There are also some new psyche and stress meters that will affect Snake's abilities in each situation. The graphics are absolutely amazing, from live quality figures to stunning landscapes, and transitions from game play to cinematics are seamless and nearly unnoticeable. A new multiplayer option also expands the range of gameplay and player abilities allowing a whole new level of competition to participate from anywhere in the world.
Most importantly, the captivating storyline combined with a style that revolutionizes the first person shooter genre has produced a game that will not easily be overtopped in the near future. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is an absolute must for anyone considering the next best thing in the gaming world. This game earned a perfect score without even breaking a sweat.
